What you need
- pH-neutral car shampoo (never dish soap)
- Two buckets + a soft wash mitt
- Microfibre drying towels (2+ large ones)
- A tyre brush and a detailing brush
- Glass cleaner for the inside
The 45-minute routine
1. Wheels first (5 min)
Wheels are dirtiest — clean them first so you’re not splashing dirty water on a clean car. Hose off, brush the tyre sidewalls, rinse.
2. The two-bucket wash (20 min)
One bucket with shampoo, one with clean rinse water. Dip the mitt, wash one panel at a time, and rinse the mitt in the clean bucket between panels. This one habit is what stops wash swirls.
3. Dry properly (5 min)
Never let it air-dry — water spots etch into the paint. Use a large microfibre towel, blot-and-drag panel by panel, don’t scrub.
4. Glass & interior wipe (10 min)
Glass cleaner inside and out. A slightly damp cloth across the dash and console. Shake the mats out and wipe the pedals.
5. Tyre finish (5 min)
A tyre dressing or shine brings back that new-black look and protects the rubber from UV cracking.
